Start with a slice of pizza
This original Tasty Foods food illustration has a pizza, a lifted slice, stretchy cheese, round toppings, and a serving board. Its broad areas give you room to try a small palette without working through lots of tiny details.
Pick a color for the crust first, then choose colors for the cheese and toppings. You can keep the whole pizza consistent or give the lifted slice its own playful color combination.
Color ideas for your pizza page
- Classic pizza: try golden brown for the crust, warm yellow for the cheese, red for the round toppings, and a natural brown for the board.
- A playful snack: use pink or purple toppings, pale yellow cheese, and a turquoise board. Repeating one bright accent keeps the colors connected.
- A small palette: choose two browns and one yellow. Use the darker brown for the crust edges and board, then leave narrow strips of cheese white as highlights.
Add a little depth
Choose one direction for your light, such as the upper left. Keep that side of the crust lighter and add a darker shade along the opposite edge. You can also put a small shadow beneath the lifted slice and where the pizza meets the board.
With colored pencils, start with light pressure so you can build the color gradually. For pens or markers, test the colors on a spare sheet of the same paper first. These are starting ideas; flat colors work well with the bold outlines, too.
Print the pizza page
The PDF is one landscape US Letter page, 11 x 8.5 in. Choose Fit to page and landscape or Auto orientation, then print single-sided. For A4, select A4 as your paper size and keep Fit to page turned on.
Check the print preview before printing. Use paper supported by your printer and place a protective sheet under the page when using markers. Our printing guide explains the settings in more detail.
